We arrived in Dunkeld at the agreed time of 7.30pm.
Jim and Mike had arrived earlier and did the pre-investigation tour as well as taking temperature readings and setting up sound recorders. Alex, Davie and Richard set up trigger objects in various rooms prior to the start of the investigation. We decided to start at bedroom number 1.
First vigil Bedroom 1
Jim asks spirit to step forward and make itself known in any way it wishes. Christine says she feels as if she is being strangled and moves from the chair she was sitting on over to the bed. Richard notices a bright orb near Christine as she sits down on the bed. No light anomaly was seen on video playback. Christine tells Alex that she felt as if the hands were coming from behind her and going round her throat. Christine also says that the pressure was greater on the right side than on the left. Christine stands up and Anne goes and sits in the chair Christine had earlier vacated.
Jim asks spirit to make a noise which all the team can hear. Anne says her digital stills camera has suddenly just drained of battery power. The batteries are new so they should not have drained after just a few minutes. Alex says he is not surprised and asks Christine if she managed to get any indication if it was a male or female who was trying to choke her. Christine says it felt like the hands of a younger person, maybe in their early twenties. Christine now says it is more like a teenager and she feels agitated an uncomfortable where she is standing and Anne feels very light headed sitting in the chair. Iain feels a draught on the back of his neck and gets the impression there should be a window behind him.
Jim has a turn of sitting in the chair. Anne says that when sitting on the chair she felt very light headed and whilst not being choked, her throat felt as if it was drying up. Jim asks spirit if there is something it did to itself in this area while in the physical life which is making team members feel the way they do. Jim senses a figure wearing a dark suit. The figure is also wearing a dark tie. A member of staff who is taking part in this vigil, feels pressure on the top of his head and Richard says the heater in the room has just come on.
Jim sees the spirit which is showing itself as a male, standing in front of him and looking down at someone sitting in the chair. Jim gets the feeling that although it is him sitting in the chair, spirit sees another person there rather than Jim. Christine picks up the name Malcolm J Murray. Jim says this incident happened in the 1970s or 80s. Jim says the spirit is not connected with the man he picked up on earlier. During his pre-investigation tour, Jim picked up on a spirit which showed itself as a male. Jim feels this man committed suicide near the location. Jim says the spirit he picked up on earlier is in the room just watching what's going on.
Alex asks if Murray was the person doing the strangling or the one getting strangled. Christine says Murray is the person who was strangled. Christine gets the feeling that Murray is an older man and that the strangling was done by a younger man. Jim says the man in the dark suit is no more than twenty five. Christine agrees.
Jim says he feels the younger man is looking down at a dead person and he does not think it was him who did the strangling. Christine feels an anger building up. Alex asks who did the strangling. Alex also asks Jim if the chair he is sitting in is the chair the body is sitting in. Jim sees a wooden chair with a dark brown leather seat which is like a dining room chair. This is not the seat Jim is sitting on.
Jim is now seeing the room from above. It is not a bedroom and the walls are red. Jim says the wallpaper is old and is red. It is like embossed paper, flowery but no actual shape. Jim also sees a picture rail which goes all around the room and the paper does not go all the way to the ceiling. Christine says she is being shown a church ceiling and that she is in the room. Christine says she is looking ahead and she sees a round stained glass window then straight from there she sees a woman's fingers around someone's throat.
Jim asks if it was a woman who was strangled. Anne had already sensed a woman when she was in the chair and Christine says it was a woman who did the strangling. Jim sees an older man slumped in the chair. Jim says the man was quite plump and had a beard and Christine says the woman was quite petite. Alex asks spirit to copy the noise he is going to make if a woman strangled a man is this room. Alex knocks three times on the wall. There are two distinct knocks heard but a team member speaks before the 30seconds are up so we don't know if there was a third knock. We will point out that when asking spirit to do something, a thirty second response time should be observed.
Alex says he is feeling particularly cold and Iain sees a ball of light go from his right around to the back of Alex. Spirit is then asked by Alex to move the musical chinese ball which is sitting on the table if an elderly gentleman was strangled by a woman in this room. Christine says the man and woman she has been seeing are both connected to each other and both took part in this murder and that they killed this guy to rob him. Jim gets the right hand side of his face touched by some unseen presence.
The chinese ball did not appear to move. Alex asks spirit to knock loudly or to move the bed if a woman strangled a man in this room. The bed moves slightly. Someone talks and for some reason photos are taken within the 30second response time so we don't know if there were any knocks.
Alex asks if anyone can pick up a date and Jim gets 1974. Alex then asks for the name of the man who was murdered. Iain hears a dragging noise to his right. Also heard by Richard. Jim seems to think the noise came from outside. Alex tells spirit that he does not mind spirit trying to distract the team every time he asks for a name provided it does it in such a manner that the cameras can pick up on it. Davie says his right arm is very cold. Alex asks spirit to move the lightshade if it's name was Edward. Richard says that through the camera he can see the shade is moving as he can see the gap between that and the smoke detector closing.
Jim says he sees the room as a bedroom but different to the way it is now. He sees an old brown wooden wardrobe beside Davie. Jim describes the wardrobe as having a bowed front, two doors with a mirror in the middle. The doors bow out and come back in again with a mirror in the middle.
The mirror is six inches wide. There is a breeze going between Davie and Alex at this time. Jim says the bed has a checked top cover which is something like a tartan blanket you would buy as a picnic blanket. Alex reports there is a draught still going round him but he is getting hotter and hotter.
Jim says he sees a woman on the bed who has her foot up on her knee and is clipping her toenails. Alex asks for a name and Jim says Sylvia. Iain reports a noise at his left ear between him and Billy. Jim says the lady is sitting between Lorraine and Billy and that the bed is bigger than the one which is in the room and has a chunky headboard. Iain said the noise he heard was like someone going hmmmmm. Jim says the woman he sees is a singer.
Lorraine says she is getting shown jewellery and medals. Alex asks Lorraine if she can describe one of the medals. Christine says she can hear someone humming some sort of tune. Alex says spirit is not giving us names and dates which we can check on and no definite noises. The elf meter suddenly emits a high pitched noise. No electrical appliances had come on and no mobile phone signals had been received, so we cannot explain why the meter should suddenly emit this noise. Once again the meter bursts into life. Again there is no apparent reason for this to happen.
Jim says there is an ashtray by the table beside the woman he sees and there is no filter on the cigarette which is in it. Jim says this is in the 1920s.
Christine picks up the name Veronica and Jim says the man who was murdered may have been called Gerard. Christine says she is being shown a glass crown which is sitting on a cushion and is walking with it. Christine also says someone is walking behind the person carrying the crown with another cushion and there are "royal" jewels on it. Davie says his left shoulder is getting tapped. Christine says the glass crown has "delmonte" around the top of it and is encrusted with small diamonds and is a weird shape.
Christine also sees small green crowns encrusted with rubies and emeralds. They are all on cushions. Alex asks if there was a countess of Dunkeld. He then asks if Christine is seeing the crowns going to a vault. Christine confirms this and Alex gets a slight push backwards. Christine sees a spirit which shows itself as a woman run past Alex. The woman is wearing bloomers and some sort of nightwear. She keeps running past Alex and jumps on to the bed. This is Veronica. Alex confirms that as reported earlier, there is a draught coming past him regularly.
Iain has a go at sitting in "the chair." Alex asks once again for names and dates. Robert Cummings is the name given and Davie picks up the name George. Christine says Veronica is giving the age of 23. Christine hears the song " Coulters Candy." Veronica is singing this song. Alex asks for the name of Veronica's father. There different names are given. Christine gets Mailly, Anne gets Marnie and Jim gets Marsden. Christine sees a glass cabinet which she describes as being very nice and engraved with flowers in the middle. She sees fancy initials H.M.
Once again, Alex asks for the name of the man who was murdered and Christine picks up the name George. Three times the name George has now been picked up. Once each by Christine, Jim and Davie. Jim also picked up the name Gerard/Gerald. Alex asks once again for spirit to copy the three knocks he is going to make if it's name was George. No apparent response.
Alex asks spirit to do the same if it's name was Gerald. No apparent response. Alex asks if the name was Gregory. No apparent response. Jim sees a spirit which is showing itself as a young man. The man is wearing 1700s type clothing which is very dis-sheveled. He is looking towards the river and is nervous about something. Mike and the member of staff are feeling a draught beside them. The staff member checks the door and window. There are no pronounced draughts.
Lorraine senses someone drowning in the river and describes a hat she sees floating on the river as black with a checked rim with ribbons on it. Alex asks Christine if the cabinet she saw had a coat of arms on it and the initials HM. Christine confirms this. Alex asks if Christine can see a keyhole anywhere on the cabinet and she confirms she sees something like a small bar which would be inserted in to what is not an obvious keyhole. Alex gets gently pushed backwards again at this point. Alex then asks Christine if she can see what is in the cabinet.
Christine says it is like crystal and silver and she also sees a rifle on top shelf of the cabinet. Alex asks what she can see on the butt of the rifle. Christine sees a name engraved in to the wood. Mike says it is JVW. Christine says she can see what looks like a S. Christine is now being shown a full name. Billy sees a black mist in between Davie and Christine. Alex asks Christine if she can see the trigger. She says it looks curled and there is only one trigger. Alex asks Christine if the trigger guard is broad or thin. Mike keeps answering the questions. Jim asks if Lorraine has just "shuddered," as he felt the bed move. Lorraine had not moved. Alex asks Christine to describe the trigger mechanism. What she describes is a musket type mechanism which is exactly what Alex and Mike are seeing.
Christine says there is "like a metal thing coming out of a lid." Davie says this is the rod. Alex now asks Christine to go back to the butt and she will now see the name engraved on it. For some reason Christine can't see the name. Alex once again asks for the name of the man who was strangled. Christine picks up the name James Stuart which is engraved in wood. Alex tells Christine that this is not the name which is on the rifle butt and that she is quite correct that the name James Stuart is engraved on to wood. Iain also picked up the name.
Alex then says to Christine that it is not a bit of wood and asks her to stand back from what she is seeing to get the full view. Mike picks up the word coffin.
Jim picks up the date 1711. Alex picked up the date 1724 and Christine 1704. Christine hears the date 1982 being said quite loudly in her ear. She does not know why at this time. Some unseen presence presses down on the shoulders of Alex and he asks spirit if that is when this murder took place. Jim says he is happy with that as the date of the murder. Alex asks spirit if it's name was Gerald. He is about to ask spirit to set the elf meter off if this is correct when the meter bursts in to life and Mike gets his forehead touched by some unseen presence.
Jim gets a stabbing pain in his right upper abdomen. Jim says spirit was punched there rather than stabbed. It would appear that Gerald or Gregory or George was beaten before he was strangled. Christine says the perpetrators were staff here and that man she picked up on was not the first person they had robbed. Christine sees the place as an Inn rather than a bank. Christine sees a concrete arch with a gate which has been opened for her but she is not getting to enter at this time. Sheet music is now being shown to Christine. She says someone is actually writing the music. Jim asks for spirit to make a noise before we close the vigil. No apparent response. The vigil is closed and the team go for a break.
During the break Jim feels unwell with severe palpitations and it is decided that Mike should take him home. We are delighted to say Jim was back at his work on the Monday following the investigation.
Vigil Bedroom 2
Alex asks spirit to make itself known in any way it wishes. Alex asks Christine if she is sitting on a high chair. Christine says she is not but feels as if she is. Davie says he feels as if he wants to get up and go. He says he feels as if he should not be here. The elf meter screams in to life. There is no apparent reason for the meter to go off. Alex asks who the big man is who has stepped in to Christine's energy and she says she feels "happy." Christine gets the name Geordie. Christine says Geordie is a nice man. A bit of a loner. Billy hears a voice ask why we are here and Christine hears a voice asking if we take Jinty. Alex asks spirit to explain Jinty. No apparent response. Christine sees a young dark haired girl about the age of 9.
Alex asks spirit to rap on the window. No apparent response. Christine asks spirit to move the chinese ball which is on the table. No apparent response. Alex asks spirit to step forward and make itself known. Alex hears the song London bridge is falling down and asks what the location has to do with London. No response. Alex picks up on the fact that spirit loves to dance and he asks spirit to do his wee dance in front of Davie. No apparent response. Billy sees a spirit standing next to Christine. She says it is her spirit guide. Iain says Geordie is from the 1960s.
Alex asks Geordie to respond in some way if he was a soldier and then asks "beardie willie" if he was a soldier. Alex is asking because he can hear the song "Scottish Soldier."
Christine then says she can hear a song about a scottish soldier. Christine asks if there is a uniform which looks like a red tartan jump-suit. The tartan is coloured red black and green. Iain says he thinks the spirit Christine is seeing is a comedian. Alex asks Geordie if he was an entertainer. No apparent response.
Christine says Geordie liked a drink and Alex asks spirit to knock on the wall twice if it's name was Willie or three times if it's name was Geordie. Richard asks if the spirit was known as Andy Stewart. Alex says "no but you are not far from getting the name." Alex asks Christine to tell him what the spirit is wearing on it's head. Lorraine says a hat like a beret with a red bobble. Lorraine then says the hat has a checked band around it There are feathers sticking out of the band. Christine picks up Orkney but does not know why.
Alex asks Christine if the man she sees is tall or small. Christine says about five foot seven inches, not fat but at the same time not thin. Alex asks Christine to listen to what the man is telling her. Alex says it is interesting Richard picked up Andy Stewart as he sometimes dressed in a similar way to the man who is here. Christine sees the man doing a "silly dance thing" and is a comedian. Alex asks if the man is carrying anything and Christine says a cane which is black with a silver top which has an embossed pattern running through it. The cane seems to be twisted. Iain, like Alex sees the man is wearing a kilt rather than trousers and he lived to a right old age.
Christine picks up the song "Donald where's your trousers." Alex asks spirit to give his name to everyone here. No apparent response. Alex asks spirit to give the name of his favourite theatre. Iain picks up the Gaiety Theatre Ayr. Alex asks spirit to tell the team who his favourite story is about. Iain picks up Robinson Crusoe and Christine hears the words "the heebie jeebies." Alex asks spirit if he got the heebie jeebies in his dressing room in Ayr. No apparent response. Alex says the heebie jeebies are part of a story. Confirmed by Christine. The surname Morrison is picked up by Alex and Christine.
Spirit, will not tell the team why he is at the location but does tell Iain that "Beardie Willie" is a pal of his. Alex asks spirit to tell them about Beardie Willie. No apparent response.
Spirit asks why people only see him when he is drunk. Iain picks up the answer that it is part of the act to pretend to be drunk. Billy sees a cross by the window. Iain picks up the year 1902. Alex asks if spirit was called Harry Lauder to knock on the wall. No apparent response. Alex asks if spirit is trying to impersonate Harry Lauder then to knock on the wall. No response. Richard asks Alex to ask Harry about the barnyards. No response. The team decide to have a break.
1st Vigil Bedroom 3
Alex asks spirit to make itself known in any way it wishes. Christine hears footsteps coming from upstairs and Richard see an orb in the camera viewfinder. The footsteps may have been staff walking around. Christine sees definite movement at the sink and Lisa senses something near Christine. Alex introduces the team to spirit and asks spirit where in Dunkeld the Chalice is hidden. An orb is seen by the fireplace by Richard and Davie says something is moving between him, Richard and Alex. Christine says there us a presence beside Lorraine and Iain and their faces are changing. Lorraine has thick black hair and is very tall. Iain looks as if he is ready to attack Lorraine. Alex is getting pushed forward and gets the name Raymond Oliphant. Raymond is beside Christine and Iain.
Iain gets the feeling Raymond was a very dominating person and Alex asks if there was such a clan as Clan Oliphant. Anne says the Oliphant's are related to the Queen. Alex asks if their is a Dunkeld Cathedral and gets the date 1529. He does not know why. Christine sees a cat walking back and forth. Iain asks if it has anything to do with Mary Queen of Scots and Anne gets the Campbell's name for some reason. Alex asks what the Stoorie Burn is. Someone says it is from a children's book. Alex asks if there was a Lord and Lady Oliphant and a place called Dunkeld Palace. Alex tells the team he is calling it a palace because he sees a huge mansion type building.
Alex is now being told the Chalice is under the fourth step of the Abbey. As far as we know there was not an Abbey in Dunkeld. Christine asks if this could be the building she was seeing earlier. The room temperature drops suddenly and Christine picks up the name Archie. He has red hair and his surname is McMullen. Christine says Archie is talking about Hazel Price. Archie tells Christine he lived in the wee hoose. She also sees big grey wellington boots and says Archie is like an odd job man.
Alex asks Archie to give the date he was born. Christine gets the date 1803 and Alex gets 1872. Alex asks Archie to copy the knocks he makes if he was born in 1803. A knock is heard. Alex asks spirit to make a noise if he passed in 1872. No apparent response.
Christine says Archie is telling her to look in the well. Alex asks where the well is. Archie is giving the name of the street but she can't quite hear it. Alex asks if this was the main village well. No response. Alex then asks what is in the well apart from water. Archie tells Christine and Iain that Hazel is in the well. Alex asks if he put Hazel in the well. Christine gets the answer no and Alex gets the answer yes. Alex then asks Archie to indicate an answer if he did not put Hazel in the well. No apparent response. He than asks Archie if he did put her in the well. No apparent response. Something prods Christine in the side.
Christine now says Archie did push Hazel down the well but it was an accident. Iain also picked this up. Alex describes Hazel as being 5ft 4ins tall, slim and is a maid. Alex had Hazel in front of him but she suddenly vanishes. Christine says Archie is an older guy and Hazel is 18. Archie is in his forties and Alex says Hazel worked for the Oliphants. Hazel is now back and Alex asks Archie to come and face Hazel. Raymond pokes his fingers in Christine's back and Iain's shoulder. Alex asks Archie why he is here and is told he is here to look for Hazel.
Iain asks if Hazel was trying to speak to the team about fifteen minutes ago. Alex asks Hazel to copy the noise he makes iif she was trying to talk to the team. Alex knocks three times on the wall. No knocks are heard but everyone hears a voice say yes. No team member said anything. Hazel and Archie cannot see each other and Davie sees movement between Christine and Iain. Alex tells Davie it is Raymond. Iain says Hazel has got more to tell. Alex asks Hazel why she is scared of Archie. Christine picks up that Archie was forcing herself on Hazel.
Alex asks Hazel if she was pushing Archie away while he was trying to kiss her and she fell in to the well. Christine says Archie had a grip of Hazel before she fell but just let her go. Christine says Archie and Hazel can't see each other as they are on a different level and also says Archie was having a relationship with Hazel when she was only 12 years of age. Christine also feels Hazel is not the only girl he had a relationship with. Archie gets angry when Alex tells him he has to admit he killed Hazel. Billy says something is at the side of Alex and Davie can see someone at the door beside Alex. This is the spirit guide of Alex. Jim comes up to say he is going away to lock up the bar and he will be outside if we need him. Jim agrees to allow us a small vigil in the bar as long as he is with us. we call a halt to this vigil and agree to resume it later.
Vigil Bar
We are joined by Susie and Jim for this vigil.
Alex asks any spirit present to make itself known in any way it can. Alex is interrupted by a noise and a vibration on the floor. Also felt by Christine. Alex says it is like electricity going through the feet. The vibration may be caused by the fridges. Christine feels a breeze around her. Christine and Alex both hear what sounds like someone snapping their fingers. Alex asks Jim if there is anything in the bar which would make the noise. Jim tells the team that there isn't. The noise is heard again and Alex asks everyone in the team to move their feet to see if the noise is caused by movement. Everyone moves their feet but the noise cannot be replicated.
When Alex first arrived at the location, he went in to the bar to be introduced to Iain's parents. While standing at the table, Alex was pushed quite hard by some unseen presence. Alex now asks the spirit who pushed him to do it again. No response. Alex picks up the name Yvonne and asks her to move the Chinese ball which is on the table. No response. Christine asks who Charlie is. No apparent response.
Anne feels a draught in front of her and Davie feels a draught beside him. Alex asks Charlie to come in to the room and show himself as he was when he was in the physical. Christine says the name is Charlie Johnstone/Thompson.
Davie feels a cold spot and is getting pushed by some unseen presence. Alex asks Charlie to knock on the table. Christine feels Charlie wants to get to know the team before he makes himself known and gets the age 57. Christine says the man took a heart attack while here. He was a tourist and he did not pass here. He passed on his way to hospital. Christine sees a leather bench type seat and says Charlie wants her to sit beside her. She wants to go and sit by the window. There are no seats where Christine wants to sit. Christine says the man died in the 1980s Lisa or Anne picks up the year 1988.
Alex asks Charlie to make a noise we can all hear. Billy asks who is sitting behind Davie. No-one is sitting behind Davie. Christine sees a fat cat walking around the shelves high up on the walls of the bar. Alex asks if Charlie can tell us who Lord Oliphant was. No apparent response.
Davie sees a shadow at the right side of the piano. Alex is getting asked the question "what isn't but should be?" Anne says the lights. Alex then asks whets missing. No apparent response. Alex and Christine agree a footrail should be by the bar and Christine says a stool is missing.
Anne says the fireplace is different. Iain says the question Alex was asked is to do with people. Ian says Mr. Mclean is all round although he is not here personally. Mr. Mclean is not in spirit. Richard says he saw something like a small dog or cat go behind Susie. Alex asks who Janette or Janet Mclean would be. He also asks who Moira and Norman/Norrie Mclean might be. Christine sees a woman look right in to Billy's face. Footsteps are clearly heard outside the bar and Davie hears two bangs. Alex sees a door in the corridor close and Christine says that is where she has been seeing shadows for the last few minutes. Billy and Davie are hearing people have a conversation in the corridor. No physical person is in the corridor.
Alex asks Norrie to tell him about the knife. Alex asks who was it and who done it. He is interrupted by Davie saying he and Billy are hearing talking from just outside the bar door. Alex opens the door and no physical person is there. Christine can hear a woman singing. Alex who is standing just inside the bar door now hears the conversation Billy and Davie are hearing. It is definitely two men but we can't make out what they are saying. The team have a short break before having a quick look at the cellar.
Mini Vigil Cellar
Alex sees a girl getting her throat cut. He says he is looking for a door in the cellar which leads to a well outside. He feels a swirling breeze in front of him. Alex wants to go through the wall to some sort of well. Alex says he would have to go through and down. Richard is feeling unwell and goes out of the cellar. The girl gives her name as Karen. Davie gets his ear pulled and some unseen presence touches the back of Iain's head. Alex sees "a religious place" and Christine and Alex see monks dressed in white. Alex says the date he is getting does not make sense. 1672. Alex sees the girl getting slashed from ear to ear and says it is not a knife but a dagger. Alex says the dagger has a wavy edge. Iain says it would be unusual for the name Karen to be used in 1672.
Alex asks what Agatha Christie has to do with Dunkeld. No response.
Once again Alex asks spirit to make itself known and some unseen presence touches Christine's back. Alex asks spirit to make a noise if she got her throat cut here. No apparent response. Alex says the spirit of a man is also seen down here regularly. Alex sees the name Robertson Brewery's on the side of a cart. Date 1913. Alex hears the word wench. This is unusual as it is an English word. He asks if there was a Battle of Dunkeld. He also sees reformists burning buildings here.
Billy says there is someone outside the cellar shouting on Susie. No physical person is shouting on her. It is a female voice. Alex says that Charlie is not Charlie. It is in fact Charlotte. The sensor controlled lights in the hallway come on at this point and the team go to check no-one has come on to the premises. No physical person is there so we cannot explain the lights coming on. It is also noticed the female toilet lights are on. These light are always switched off after use. The team have a short break before going to the music room.
Vigil Music Room.
Everyone sits at the tables and joins hand in this candle lit room. Alex stays out of the circle to help in case anything goes wrong. Christine opens the vigil and promptly gets prodded in the side. Christine asks Alex to take spirit away from her. Alex does and Iain reports he is now ice cold. Christine hears a bang near the window. Billy feels something at his left shoulder. Christine asks if spirit is afraid of us and she says spirit has just come up close to her face and told her he is "not fucking scared." Davie said his chair is moving.
Christine asks spirit to blow the flame of the candle out. Alex is now at the back of Davie and he feels Dave's chair vibrating. Christine asks John to step forward and speak to them. Something is now trying to move Dave's fingers. Alex tells Davie that John does not like Dave's jewellery. Christine asks why. No apparent response. Christine then asks spirit to bang on the table. Davie still feels the chair is going to get pulled away from him and Lorraine feels as if her hands are being pulled apart. Once again, Christine asks spirit to do something.
Alex asks what other spirit is here and Christine picks up the name Angus. Davie says spirit is pulling his legs back. Alex tells spirit to back off from Davie. The room gets colder. Davy gets the name James. A noise is heard near or outside the door. No-one is at or outside the door. James is asked to thump on the table if his surname was Stewart. No apparent response. Davie says it is James McPherson. Alex asks if this is THE James McPherson. Alex feels as if he has a walking type stick in his hand and is pacing around the table.
Alex points to Iain and says "you, it's you who he wants." James says the songs are wrong and does not understand why Iain does not put it right. The room is now very cold and Alex gets a kick in the right knee. Alex asks why we have James and John the puritan in the same room at the same time. Alex sees James go round the table with the bow of his fiddle waving around.
Alex is surprised no-one in the team is getting hit by the bow James is waving around. James is very agitated. James tells Alex that is wasn't the English who put the clock forward when a repreive was coming for him. it was his own kith and kin, his own crowd and as a result the repreive didn't arrive in time and he was hanged one hour and fifteen minutes earlier than the law planned. Alex is supposed to be on the outside of the circle observing but spirit seems to have drawn him in to the vigil.
Alex says the back of Davie is ice ice cold. Once again Alex asks what John the Puritan is doing here. Alex describes John as wearing something like what an old fashioned pastor would wear. Billy feels something try to move his hand and says Christine has something in front of her. Alex asks if Christine has Mary in front of her. Christine says she has got a woman in front of her who looks like a maid but is not a maid. The woman has grey hair, piercing eyes and is quite old. The woman has something om her head similar to what Queen Victoria used to wear.
Christine says the woman is snarling at her and showing Christine her dirty black teeth. She has a high pitched yet croaky voice and gives Christine the name Mary Johnstone.
Christine says Mary has just told her Alex can "fuck off." Alex tells spirit "ah so can you." Christine says Mary is now laughing and Alex asks her why she is swearing. No apparent answer. Christine says Mary liked her drink. Christine and Alex hear a male voice near Davy. No team member spoke. Christine says Mary has a crooked back. Alex asks Mary if she would give us her date of birth. Christine and Billy pick up July the 18th. 1846 is also picked up. Alex asks spirit to step away from Lorraine. Alex asks spirit to show itself by the window so the camera can pick it up. The room temperature drops again and Richard feels a breeze at his back.
Christine smells whisky and asks spirit to do something. Richard and Christine are shivering with cold. Iain calls out and asks spirit to make themselves known. Alex asks Iain why there is not a lot of writing done at his meetings. Iain says Alex is correct in saying that. Alex also asks who the person is who drinks the juice from the can. Iain gives an answer.
Billy sees an energy behind Richard and Davie said it is heading towards Lorraine and Christine sees a big man with a big head with receding hairline but with thick hair and bushy sideburns, a moustache and thick beard. Christine says she feels the man was quite dominant. Alex asks if his death was natural or "supernatural." Davy feels James is back and he is asking Davy "what do you know that I don't know." Alex replies that we know all about him and we know that his name is not James. Alex then asks what spirit is doing in the territory which belongs to James.
Christine picks up the name Edward. Davy asks James to move the candle down towards him. No apparent response but the temperature around Davy, Richard and Alex drops. Iain sees a face on the back of Christine's head and Alex asks who has the dragon on their coat of arms. Davie says the Welsh. Shadows in he room give the appearance of the locked off dvd camera moving on it's own. Nothing else seems to be happening so Christine closes the vigil and the team go for a break.
The team split after the break as time is running out. Christine, Richard, Lisa and Billy go back to room three. Anne, Lorraine, Iain and Alex go to room five.
Vigil Two Bedroom 3
Christine asks what the guys name was who was in the room earlier. Davy says Archie. Christine asks Archie and Hazel to knock on the wall or the door. Lisa sees four orbs go towards Christine. Davy asks Archie or Hazel to move something in the room or to touch someone. Christine, Lisa and Richard hear something near the door. It is like someone gasping for breath. Christine says Mary is here and is going to point her finger right in Dave's face. Christine asks spirit to bang on the door. On video playback, an energy is noticed right in front of the camera when the camera is pointing at the room door. The energy is like a heat haze. This is not noticed by the team at the time.
Billy sees a cellar door which leads to a room. He sees a man in bed who is being attacked by two men. Lisa is feeling very uncomfortable and moves away from the bed. Another orb is seen beside Christine who says she is feeling weird and has a pain in her leg. Billy says Christine should be feeling dizzy and depressed. Christine agrees she is. Billy sees a black ball of light go from the ceiling to the floor. Some unseen presence touches Christine's head and Davy senses someone walking back and forward in front of him. The elf meter bleeps briefly. Christine feels sick and has stomach cramps. Billy sees what he describes as a dog. Lisa says there is an energy at her right hand side and the team sees light around the door and coming from under the door. The lights outside the room are off.
Davy says something is blowing in his ear and Billy, Lisa and Christine hear what they describe as a baby crying. Christine asks spirit to do something. There is a short bleep from the elf meter. Davie hears someone "stomping" around the room and Lisa, Christine and Billy hear a noise which is like someone cleaning out a coal fireplace. The team hear a woman scream. Billy says the screaming is coming from room one. Christine thinks it has something to do with childbirth. Lisa and Billy say their backs are now ice cold. Davy sees an orb at the bedroom door. Nothing much is happening so the team call a halt to the vigil.
Vigil Bedroom 5
The video camera, although picking up sound is not recording pictures. The camera is checked and we find no reason for it not to record pictures. We continue the vigil recording sound only. Alex asks any spirit present to make itself known in any way it can. Some unseen presence touches Anne's hair. Alex asks spirit to identify itself. No apparent response. The team agree the room is getting colder. Alex asks spirit if all it is going to do is make the room go cold. Suddenly, the video camera starts recording pictures as well as sound. We have no explanation for this.
Iain says his right hand was like a block of ice but is now a bit warmer. Lorraine says she is actually freezing. Iain asks spirit to make the inner room door close. Through the viewfinder, Alex sees movement in the other room. Lorraine is being shown cartoon drawings for some reason. The team move through to the other room and find that it is far colder than the room they just moved from. They move back to the other room. Lorraine hears the chalderns song "My Little Teapot." Alex picks up on a spirit which gives the name Yvonne. This is the second time we have had an Yvonne. Alex asks her to close the door. No apparent response.
Once again, Alex asks spirit to move something in the room or to even show itself as it was when it was in the physical. A spirit which identifies itself as John Laurie pops in to say hello. He says he wrote more than one book. Alex asks John to move the internal room door. No apparent response. Anne sees a presence on the chair in the other room. 1901 and 1851 are the years Anne and Iain pick when Alex asked John to give them the year in which he was born. Anne picks up the name Margaret. Alex asks Margaret to step forward.
Alex asks Anne if Margaret would be between the ages of 48 to 54. Anne is not sure. Alex then asks if Margaret liked flowers. Anne is not picking up anything to do with flowers. Alex asks if she liked wearing a flower in her hat. Anne confirms Margaret did like flowers in her hat. Alex says he is asking because Margaret is sitting on the chair in the other room and she is wearing what Alex describes as early 1900s clothing. Iain picked up the date 1911 just a few minutes before Alex said that date. Alex asks if John and Margaret are husband and wife. No apparent response. She is just sitting looking at Anne. Alex once again asks spirit to do something in the room and to give them names and dates which are on record somewhere.
Again Alex asks spirit to make itself known. Anne feels the temperature drop again. There is a presence standing by the room door. The presence cannot be seen through the camera viewfinder but can be seen quite clearly with the naked eye. Anne confirms there is a presence near the door. This is not shadows being caused by light. Anne says exactly where the energy is. The outline of a figure can be clearly seen. The room temperature drops again. Lorraine complains of sore ears and says she is being shown the hotel kitchen. The spirit of "Charlie" walks in the kitchen regularly.
Alex says he is going to count down to zero from 10 and when he reaches zero the investigation will end. No further activity is recorded so the vigil is ended.
Investigation ended 5.15 am.
Conclusion
The location is definitely haunted. In particular by Willie and Charlie who are resident. They are quite friendly and have a good sense of humour. There were a number of visiting spirits who entertained us throughout the evening. We do not feel there are any negative energies anywhere at the location. The cellar incident we feel was a replay of an incident rather than any actual haunting. We are looking forward to our next visit to Dunkeld for part two of this project.
There was no movement recorded on any of the trigger objects which were set up around the hotel.
